Congrats, Grad!

Graduation sessions are always special, but this one was extra meaningful because it was for my friend, Sam! Sam is enrolled in the five-year Early Childhood and Special Education program at The College of New Jersey, and I was so lucky to capture this huge milestone for her right on our college campus.

We started out at the Education Building, which felt especially fitting given her major. One of my favorite spots there is along the side of the building near Lot 18, where the School of Education signage is displayed. It’s such a clean and meaningful backdrop for education majors. We captured a mix of full-length cap-and-gown portraits along with tighter, close-up shots that really highlighted her excitement and pride.

Next, we moved to the front of the Education Building to switch up the angles and lighting. I always make sure to get a variety of poses during grad sessions — classic smiling at the camera, walking shots, adjusting the cap, holding the diploma cover, and a few fun celebratory moments. These little variations make a huge difference when building out a gallery that feels dynamic and complete.

And of course, no TCNJ graduation session would be complete without heading over to Green Hall. It’s such an iconic campus landmark and a must-have in every grad gallery. At Green Hall, Sam brought out a few meaningful props to personalize her session even more. Whether it’s cords, stoles, a decorated cap, or something that represents your future career path, I always encourage grads to bring items that tell their story.
