Top Tips for Creating Fabulous Christmas Cards

Christmas is a time for spreading joy, love, and warm wishes. As a family photographer, sending and receiving beautiful photo Christmas cards is a holiday tradition I love.

I understand the importance of capturing those special moments and turning them into beautiful cards that reflect your family's unique style. Over the past few years, I’ve received so many beautiful cards from my clients and have observed a few things that make the really great cards stand out from the rest and am sharing my top tips here:

Beautiful Photo(s)

First and foremost - you knew I was going here - showcase a beautiful photo of you and/or your family. While last year’s pictures may be adorable, your friends and family will enjoy seeing current photos. Have you booked with JENNAKPHOTOS yet? :)

Schedule Your Family Photos Early

By scheduling early, you ensure that you have plenty of time to capture the perfect shots and select your favorite images for the card. See this blog post for a bunch more reasons why this is important.

Simplicity is Key

While it's tempting to include all your favorite photos from a session with JENNAKPHOTOS, overcrowding the card with too many images can make it visually overwhelming. I recommend choosing 1-3 photos that truly capture the essence of your family and let those beautiful faces shine. (You can order prints and albums of all the other amazing photos for your home or relatives as gifts!)

Choose Complementary Colors

Consider the colors in your family photos. Pick complementary shades that enhance the overall look and feel of the card. Harmonizing the colors will create a cohesive and visually appealing result.

Opt for Simpler Design

While extravagant card designs can be visually appealing, they can also distract from the true focus of the card - your beautiful family. Opt for a clean and minimalistic design that puts the spotlight on your photos. Let the images be the stars of the card, evoking warm feelings and genuine smiles.

Shop Around for Printing Deals

Most online print companies offer special deals and incentives for ordering your holiday cards early. Keep an eye out for their emails and in-home mailers in early to mid-November. Take advantage of these promotions to save money while still getting high-quality prints. It's a win-win situation!

I hope these tips help you create your favorite Christmas card yet!
