Back in the summer, I had the joy of photographing this father and son beach session in Asbury Park ☀️ Joe reached out with the idea of scheduling photos during their annual trip to the shore, and I absolutely loved it. Not only would we capture beautiful portraits, but we would also document a tradition that already held so many memories for them.
We wanted the session to feel relaxed, fun, and playful, something that reflected their personalities and the excitement of a summer day at the Jersey Shore. Instead of focusing only on posed portraits, we explored some of their favorite spots around Asbury Park and let the session unfold naturally.
We started our session along the boardwalk with the iconic Convention Hall in the background. The architecture there is so recognizable and really captures the spirit of Asbury Park. We photographed a mix of playful walking shots, relaxed moments between the two of them, and a few classic portraits.
Next, we headed over to the Wonder Bar. We took photos right in front of the building, some along the curbside, and of course made sure to capture the iconic Tillie face that decorates the exterior. It added such a fun touch to their gallery.
Joe shared the funniest story before the session. Joey apparently loves walking past the Wonder Bar and is eagerly waiting until he’s old enough to experience the fun inside. Honestly, I don’t blame him!tThe outside alone is such an iconic and colorful spot! Naturally, we had to stop there for photos. The bold signage and vibrant energy of the building made such a fun backdrop.
After exploring the boardwalk area, we made our way onto the beach itself. One of my favorite things about Asbury Park is the rocky backdrop along the shoreline. It adds texture and variety to beach photos and creates such a unique look compared to a traditional sandy beach setting.
Of course, no beach session is complete without getting a little wet! We ended the session in the ocean itself, and these two were not afraid to jump right in. The laughter, splashing, and carefree moments were the perfect way to wrap up the evening and truly capture the joy of their beach tradition.
